Planned Parenthood’s “Pledge a Picket” Campaign

Many of you are aware of Planned Parenthood’s “Pledge a Picket” campaign. For those who are not, the idea of the program is for pro-abortion advocates to donate to Planned Parenthood based on the number of pro-life “picketers.”
The campaign is an attempt to discourage and dishearten 40 Days for Life vigil participants and others who stand in vigil for the innocent and helpless unborn children. But, in actuality, the mere existence of the program provides clear and convincing evidence that such vigils and protests are an effective tool in the battle to end legal abortion-on-demand. Why else would they resort to such a cynical approach?
And, even better news: In the final analysis, the “Pledge a Picket” campaign provides a wonderful opportunity to follow Jesus Christ’s example given to us in Romans 12:20 “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.”
We know that this battle is not about money, but is about hearts, minds, souls, lives, and justice — apparently Planned Parenthood has not figured this out yet.

Considering a Vigil Hour?

Vigil hours remain available and we encourage you to sign-up using the Online Calendar. Note that although the calendar looks less than full, many prayer warriors are stopping by the vigil location without signing-up online. This is completely fine! However, it is much appreciated when you DO use the calendar to sign-up. Doing so helps others to know where there truly are weak points in the schedule. You can also call to let us know that you (or others) are or will be there – (360) 329-4985.

Opposition at the Vigil Site

It is possible that there may be some opposition showing up at the Kitsap 40DFL vigil site in the coming days. See the blog at http://starsandstraps.livejournal.com/ [10 Feb 2008|01:06am]
They talk about arriving before our vigil hours begin and “claiming our spot” on the public right-of-way thereby forcing vigil participants out of the area. Of course they do have as much right to the public right-of-way as do we. I am told that currently (Sun, Feb 10th) at the Bellingham vigil there are about an equal number of pro-aborts as those on the pro-life side. Interestingly, they are not grouped together but are standing with each other in peace! Even so, vigil participants who encounter opposition may wish to yield with love, simply moving down a bit (there is plenty of room for 20 or more along the right-of-way), or to the opposite side of the street.
Although their presence may be a distraction from prayer, it is a actually a positive thing for those who are passionate on the other side of this issue to act – peacefully – on this issue. Complacency is our real enemy. ANYONE who shines a light on the issue, hastens the day that this holocaust will end.
Of course, if at any point you feel threatened or unsafe to any degree, call 911 and ask for assistance. Please then also call (360) 329-4985. Someone can typically be at the vigil location to assist within 10 to 15 minutes.
Do note that all 40DFL vigil participants agree to abide by the Statement of Peace.

Help us fill vigil hours!

We need volunteers to fill vigil hours for our 40 day vigil outside the East Bremerton Planned Parenthood. Consider committing yourself to doing a few hours each week; make it part of your Lenten resolution; bring your friends, your whole family; organize a group from church to take a block of hours! “Why?” Because it is a prayerful witness to the clinic’s patients and employees, and to the entire community, that evil is in our midst and that with God’s help, it will be defeated!

While we are concentrating on daily vigil hours of 8:00AM to 6:00PM, it would take only 168 people to sign-up for 2 hours a week for a 24/7 vigil with 2 present at every hour!!! Will you consider making time for at least 2 hours a week to be a part of ending abortion in America?

Signing up for hours is easy!

  1. Click “Vigil Signup,” find the dates and times you can participate and click “sign-up”
  2. Fill out your information, indicate if you’d like to do those hours daily, weekly, or with no recurrence
  3. Submit, and you’re done!

Please note that you hour/s will NOT appear on the calendar immediately, but after review and approval – this to avoid the potential of someone “spamming” the calendar.

Thanks to Aaron Stockton and his hard work putting this Vigil Sign-up form together, we can now easily find which hours are vacant, half-full (1 person), or full (2 or more people).

If you would prefer to sign-up by phone or email, that’s fine too! Call us at (360) 329-4985 or email us at kitsap@40DFL.com
